Celebrating 100 Years of Lysaght in Australia

To say that steel runs in the blood of Roof & Render SA Director, Ben Mann, is an understatement.

Ben is the fourth generation of the Mann family in the roofing business, which began in 1921. Coincidentally, that was also the first year Lysaght started manufacturing in Australia, marking the beginning of an era for Australian-made steel roofing products.

The Mann family’s connection with Lysaght goes back to the early days when Ben’s great-grandfather, Ernest Mann, used Lysaght Orb sheeting in his plumbing and roofing business, EW Mann & Son. Back then, the material had to be shipped from England via steamer—a far cry from today’s local manufacturing processes. Over the decades, Lysaght has become an iconic name in Australian steel, shaping the nation’s homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

Roof & Render SA has partnered with a range of suppliers throughout its many years in business, each contributing to the company’s ongoing commitment to quality and service. As a fourth-generation business, we share an understanding of longevity and reliability that is also reflected in Lysaght’s history.

Ben Mann believes in the importance of stability and trustworthiness in any supplier, something that has allowed Roof & Render SA to grow into one of South Australia’s most respected roofing companies. “Our company has stood the test of time, and we’re trusted by our customers,” Ben says. “We’ve reroofed homes for generations of the same families—grandparents, their children, and now their grandchildren.”

Roof & Render SA understands that in roofing, quality and continuity are essential. A business that’s here today needs to be here tomorrow, standing behind its work and providing recourse if ever needed. As Lysaght celebrates its centenary, we honour the role that high-quality, Australian-made materials have played in shaping our industry and supporting our local communities.

Steel roofing continues to be an increasingly popular choice among South Australians, especially as homeowners with tiled roofs turn to steel for efficiency, durability, and ease of maintenance.

As proud South Australians, we celebrate the achievements of a company like Lysaght, which has also contributed to the local industry through its roll forming operations in Gilman. The shared heritage and commitment to quality between Roof & Render SA and Lysaght reflect the resilience and excellence that have defined Australian manufacturing for generations.

Here’s to Lysaght’s 100 years of dedication to Australian roofing—an impressive milestone that resonates with us as a fellow business built on history, skill, and pride.
